New Shipment In!

Just got a bunch of new stuff!

Doctor Who graphic novel/late Christmas present from my
AWESOME ex-roomie :D

Order from Sephora in preparation for summmeerrr

Free samples! I chose all perfumes.

From Sephora (left to right) I got their refillable perfume rollerball, Buxom Smoky Eye stick in Smokin' Pistols (previously mentioned here), Sephora-brand nail polish in "wet cement," Blush GeleĆ© by Givenchy (also mentioned in the Summer Make-Up post), annnd a palette from Too Faced called Naked Eye.

I've tried the Buxom stick but I can't really give a fair review because I know I need to get used to it, I'm so out of sorts trying to use anything but powder on my eyes. The only other one I've tried so far is the blush... it's awesome! So lightweight and the perfect flushed tone. The first time I put it on, I put on way too much because I wasn't used to the applicator, but even so it just looked like I'd been running around... not like I'd put on my blush really badly. Pretty amazing. I know I'll love the Too Faced palette because the colours are just what I wanted, and Too Faced eyeshadows are so wonderful: just the right compromise of creamy and mixable, while still being pressed powder.

The perfume samples I got are (left to right) de Lolita Lempicka (incredibly flowery, pretty overpowering - comes in a spray bottle but waaaay too much comes out, if I use it I'll have to dab), ChloƩ (a nice, soft rose - a modernized version of your grandma's perfume you loved), and Colette by Tocca (a scent made up of a whole lot of things, I think I can mainly smell the vanilla and sandalwood? Not really sure though...)

Just 20 days now until I leave for the Czech Republic! I feel like I have so much left to do, but getting in that Too Faced palette was one more check in the box - I've decided that's the only eye shadow I'll bring. It'll be tough, but it was that or spend agonizing hours deciding which pots and palettes from my current collection should make the cut. And then figuring out how to get them there safely and without spilling. This is a much better solution, and the palette has enough variety that I can do day and night looks without getting bored. I hope!

Bears Don't Belong in Zoos

I went to the midnight screening of Hobo With A Shotgun the other night after one of our tech run-throughs. It was everything it could and should have been. Pure delight, especially since the two men responsible for the film gave a little speech beforehand, and it was the perfect movie to see at a midnight showing (with the perfect audience - drunk punks screaming at the screen).

Straight outta Dartmouth
ps: how fucking awesome is it that Rutgar Hauer is in it?!!?!?!

All the Editors are hard, All the Journalists are wet

All the boys are jerking off in private on the internet.

Protest The Hero's new album came out yesterday!!!
Fuck yeeaaaah. I got it off iTunes last night and listened to it on the way to/from class today. It's only got 10 tracks, but the awesome-level makes up for that. I'm pretty sure I'll have this album on repeat for the next few weeks.

My friend told me that Rody wrote the lyrics for this album (Arif usually does) so I was a little tentative about listening to it because one of my favorite things about Protest is their lyrics. The first song that came on my iPod was "Moonlight," and it was good, but not the same level of amazing that I was used to. I'm laughing at myself now, though, because Wiki tells me that's one of the two songs that Arif did write the lyrics to (you can definitely tell his other one, C'est la vie, it's reminiscent of the style of Fortress). The second song that came on was "Hair-Trigger." It so won me over. The opening lyrics may have helped with that... "That sweet little red head's got her hooks in my back."

The music's obviously fucking fantastic, it's Protest. There's one part in "Sex Tapes" (lyrics in title are from that track as well) that has the coolest vocals - when he sings "be careful what you're looking at because it may be looking back."

Wicked album. Go buy it. Support bad ass Canadian music.
Also, if anyone has any pull with the band, please beg them to add some East coast dates to their tour.

Organizing with a pinch of personality

Up until last month, this apartment has kind of felt like a temporary resting place. I signed a lease for the place for next year, though, and it finally came time to make my room look like a living space instead of a hovel.
I went out to Walmart and Michael's today, and got a nice shelf and some boxes and organizers. I'm so happy with how it's looking now!! I just have to get all my pictures up on the wall and it will finally feel like my home.

My new shelf! I think I might paint it at some point, but I'm just
it's here for now :)

All the clutter on my bedside table finally has a home, so it's down
to just the basics.

Possibly most importantly, I got enough hangers and a shoe
organizer, so all my clothes and my heels now fit! YAY!!

Now the only big thing left to organize is my huge, messy jewelry collection. I need like five more jewelry stands, it's beyond ridiculous.

Also, everyone should go to Crissi Cochrane's myspace and listen to the song Mexico. I love it; I've had it on repeat all night.

Holiday Tradition: Baking Marathon

Every year my family descends upon my father's house in what I call "the family invasion." They come on the 27th, and, in honour of that, I spend all Boxing Day baking goodies so we have something to munch on (we're a big family).
This year I made scones and cinnamon rolls from family recipes, and then molasses cookies (the soft ones) from a nightmare of a recipe that I will NEVER repeat, and, finally, these deliciously different German cookies called "pfeffernusse," (you can find lots of recipes for them on the internet; that's where I found one).
I literally had mountains of baked goods by the end of it.

Just one of my mountains

The pfeffernusse take longer to make, but they're fun to make,
and so yummy!!!!
I had lots of compliments tonight on my baking, and it was certainly a delicious night because, in addition to all my hard work, my father made homemade bread, seafood chowder, and beef stew.
I love Christmas eating!!

Merry Christmas!!!

Hope you got as exciting presents too!
(This was actually on my wishlist <3)

Anticipated Arrival

I was filled with joy when I arrived home to a cheerful blue box in my mailbox.

I'm super excited to wear some this weekend :)

IMU-Things

I took yesterday off because I was super wiped after being called in to work all weekend. I made it a recoup day and spent it with Northern Belle. It ended up being a day of getting back to things I've missed - including her.
Here are the four main things I'm glad I had back in my life yesterday.

Pretty Make-up
Since ordering my Lime Crime make-up the other day (which I'm still eagerly checking my mailbox for), I realised how long it had been since I put any effort into doing my eyeshadow. Working full time means I wear no make-up during the week, and on the weekend I rarely did more than black, or a smokey eye at most. I missed my colourful lids! I missed my MAC and my Lime Crime.

Proper Sushi Dates

Since school ended, I haven't had proper sushi dates like I used to. Having our sewing studio on Spring Garden led to lots of quick sushi dashes when sewing became too stressful. Since then, I've been getting my fix by eating Sobeys sushi at work, but it's not even close to Hamatchi House, where we went yesterday and had wonderful sushi on real plates, instead of in plastic boxes.

The Beach!!!

I can't believe how long I went without going to the beach! It's just obscene. The walk yesterday was superb, even though I did leave my swim suit in the car (it was pretty windy). Being at the beach yesterday has got me super pumped for my coming camping trips, all of which revolve around beaches. Successful summer, here I come!

Last But Not Least:
Indulging My Inner Goth
As I said before, I can't seem to kill it. So yesterday when it nearly exploded with black joy at these shoes, I decided to appease it. And it brought me great happiness. Really, just look at them. Fantastic. I can't wait to wear them downtown this Saturday for my birthday =]

Too Tempting To Handle

Doe Deere over at LimeCrime make-up is loving the hell out of this Double Rainbow craze (search it on youtube if you've been living under a rock). She's put out this amazing deal to fit in with it, too. Click on over to her blog for mad hax that will get you fitted out with the most illegally bright contraband.
I couldn't resist giving in to it, and it gave me a good excuse to pick up some of her lipsticks that I've been dying to try. She has an orange one (My Beautiful Rocket - aren't her names fantastic? they all come with stories too!) that became part of my order because I'm dying to try an orange lipstick after seeing Elly from La Roux look so stunning in this mess of fun. I usually avoid really orangey things as a red head, but she looks too wicked to not take inspiration from.
